I choose love

15 Aug

“Then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him.  And the soldiers plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple robe; they came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands.” John 19: 1-3

As we know, this was just the beginning of Jesus’ road to crucifixion.  He was mocked; he was beaten; he carried his cross; he fell; he got back up; he was placed on the cross to die a horrific death.  Why?  For us.  Every. single. one. of. us.

Not just me, not just you.  But for every single one of us.

Because He loved us.  All of us.

The cross is one of love…

of complete abandonment to His Father’s will out of love.

Yet every day, we turn away from that love.

We gossip.

We judge.

We assume.

We talk too much.

We are silent.

We give in to temptation.

We fester on anxiety.

We are selfish.

We don’t forgive.

We are tearing away at the body of Christ.

It is not love.

Perhaps that is why Jesus gave us a new commandment, the greatest commandment of all:  “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all you mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” (Luke 10: 27-28)

I fail at this true, authentic type of love daily.  But, I pray and through His grace, I am strengthened to keep on the path to loving.

Well put. You are on that “path to loving” perhaps more so than anyone else I know.

You just wrapped up my entire life commitment and my mantra for my sons.

Love like Jesus told us to. Period.

    Awesomely beautiful post.
