A Vacation Interview

28 Aug

Where did we just get back from?

Jonah:  Vacation!!!!!306

Where did we go to on vacation?

Annie:  To the beach, in Hilton Head Head Island.  (pictured below, our view from the deck of my parent’s condo.  We were about a 5 minute bike ride from the ocean which was all sorts of awesome!)

What did we do on vacation?

Jonah: Played at the beach, went to a Magic Show, and ate a cupcake.

Annie:  We went to Mass, went to the beach, played with Poppi, went on bike rides, went to an outdoor concert, ate smoothies, saw crabs and jellyfish.

Anything else, Daddy?

Daddy:  Went on walks, collected shells, boogie boarded, got stung by jellyfish, went out to eat, and mommy and I went on a date.

What did you do at the beach?

Jonah:  Played in the water and made “crumbly” (aka sand that has been sifted).

Annie:  Built sand castles and donuts in the sand.  We also ate lunches there which was super fun.

Mommy:  We collected shells and spent a lot of time in the water.

What was your favorite part of the beach?

Jonah:  Playing in the water

Annie:  Playing in the water and building sandcastles.

Daddy:  Playing in the water with the kids, especially jumping over the waves—the kids thought it was hilarious.

Mommy:  Ummmm….boogie boarding, because.  Obviously.

And, if James could weigh in, I’m pretty sure he’d say something about the undivided attention he got from one of the four adults that were on the trip. He was in love with my dad especially, constantly asking for “PaPa.”

133

What was your least favorite part of the ocean?

Annie: Jellyfisth

Jonah:  Crabs  (note the insanely large one below that washed up on shore)

269

Daddy:  Jellyfish

Mommy:  Jellyfish—especially the jerks that stung my leg up and down.  Oh, and the ones that stung the heck out of my mom’s legs, too.

How did you feel on vacation?

Annie:  Happy because we got to go the beach and daddy didn’t have to go to work.

Jonah:  Happy because we got treats like cupcakes.

Daddy:  Joyful because I was surrounded by my family, the people I love the most.  Grateful that I was able to spend that time with everyone in such a beautiful place.  Relaxed because I didn’t have to go to work.

Mommy:  Relaxed, which is a strange feeling for me.  Joyful for the undivided attention that we were able to give the kids.  And, just so grateful for the break away from “life.”

What was your favorite thing that we ate on vacation?

Jonah:  smoothie

Annie:  cupcake

Daddy:  Blackened cobia with fingerling potatoes and collard greens.

Mommy:  Grilled cobia with bacon hollendaise sauce.

What do you want to do next year when we go back?

Jonah: Go to the beach, again!!!!

234

Annie:  Play with Nanni and Poppi and you guys and go to the beach.

Daddy:  Go on a date with my wife.

Mommy:  Boogie board and go for long bike rides.

What is something you learned on this vacation?

Daddy:  That we need to get a credit card that accumulates frequent flyer miles.

Mommy:  That pulling an all-nighter driving through the mountains in fog and on back roads (thank you Garmin for your stupid directions going home) is worse than James screaming in his car seat for 16 hours during the daytime.

If you could take one memory and bottle it and never forget it, what would it be?

Jonah:  Pretending with Daddy that we could hide from the waves.

Annie:  Playing 2-finger monster with Poppi (the 2-fing
er monster is a monster who comes out of the woods in many of Poppi’s “scary stories” that the kids are forever begging him to tell.  It turned into the 2 finger monster coming out of the water to get Annie.)

201202

Daddy:  The laughter of the kids.

Mommy:  The feeling of carefree timelessness with the people who mean the most to me.

It was an awesome vacation indeed.
