My name is Amanda Venema. This is my low down…

I am a wife. I married my husband, a computer geek (but a lovely and handsome one) in June 2002.

Ah, we were so young and naïve! After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in English and Elementary Education, we moved to St. Louis, MO, where my husband worked for Boeing doing top secret stuff—something about programming missiles for the government. I taught 7th and 8th grade English and Religion at a private Catholic School. Life was good then—but we were struggling with the nasty beast that is infertility. You can read more about our story here.

I am a mother. We received help and healing from the root of our infertility and God answered the desires of our heart when he blessed us with three lovely children here on Earth:

Analise (born May, 2006), Jonah (born July, 2008), and James (born December, 2010)

We were also blessed with two little ones who are already in Heaven: Elizabeth Ann and Gabriel Michael. We lost those two babies in devastating first trimester miscarriages.

I am a *home-schooling* mother. We’ve chosen to home school our kids. We have many reasons for doing this. I’m sure you will read about those eventually on this blog. I love it with every fiber of my being. And, it is tough. Really tough. But oh so rewarding and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

I am a catechist. I helped to initiate the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Religious Education Program at my parish. I lead one atrium class a week. It is awesomely humbling to help children deepen their wonder and awe for God.

I am Catholic. I am very proud of my faith.  My faith defines who I am and my hope is to write from my heart. My faith in the Catholic Church penetrates to the core of who I am. Without it, I have nothing left to write about.

I am striving to find that perfect balance because it exists, right?  I am hoping that this blog brings me an opportunity to step away from the commitments and take time to refelct on them. God has blessed me immensely and I am doing my best to breath in the beauty and goodness around me.
